Torridge Pilot Gig Club was born out of the love of being on the water and desire to provide rowing opportunities to the local community. We are lucky to be based on the quay in Appledore, and are a very short walk to the water with the options of a row up the river or out towards the mouth of the estuary. Whichever way you go, you are sure to have a good workout with the ever-changing currents, tides and weather conditions.
We are a thriving club with ambition to compete to a high level, who prides itself in being friendly and inclusive, open to all age ranges and experience levels. We offer rowing opportunities for both recreational and competitive crews, with a team of great coxes to take you on your journey. The club’s committee is run by volunteers who are committed to ensuring the success of the club.
We take part in regattas across the South West during the summer and take part in the WPGC (World Pilot Gig Championship) on the Isle of Scilly each May which is always a great event. Throughout the year there will be opportunities to take part in races, regardless of experience, either within the club or against other clubs.
We are proudly a member of the CPGA (Cornish Pilot Gig Association). All our boats are maintained within their set guidelines and we work in partnership with other local gig clubs and the wider gig community.
This is a great team sport which is likely to take you out of your comfort zone, is lots of fun, sociable and gives you a great all-over workout.
